Back in 1960, IH converted their 6 digit p/n’s for capscrews and bolts over to a new system.
One coded to identify the hardware without having to look up the part number.
All capscrews will have a three, four, or five digit number preceded by the letter "S"
to designate "cap screw," The only suffix to the number would be the letter "D" to
indicate a drilled head and (or) the number "8" denoting a special ma¬terial.
In the part number, S-l indicates a capscrew with a fine thread; S-2 indicates a
capscrew with a coarse thread. The second digit, or the combination of the second and
third digit, indicates the diameter in 16th’s. The balance of the part number indicates the length in 8th’s.
Examples for your information are as follows:
S-286 (1/2" x 3/4" NC)
S-2108 (5/8" x 1" NC)
S-11624 (1" x 3" NF)
S-11414-D (7/8" x 1 3/4" NF drilled head)
S-21232-D-8 (3/4" x 4" NC drilled head special steel)
The database is in its test phase so please send any comments or suggestions to the address below. This database was put together by www.tractorparts.com with the aim of helping those in need of parts to broaden their search options and improve their chances of keeping their equipment running economically. I have taken care to proofread and check all entries but of course errors can occur. Use care and diligence when ordering parts from anyone. If you have any corrections and additions, please submit them to me steeringclutch@gmail.com.
If you would like to help in this effort, and have additional cross references you would like to contribute for the benefit of others, please contact me and we will do our best to add them.
